Cumberland School Committee approves routine measures, extends school project deadlines; tables one resolution

The Cumberland School Committee on Feb. 27 approved a slate of routine agenda items and resolutions and voted to extend the end date for multiple school construction projects.
The committee voted unanimously, 7-0, to approve the meeting agenda and to adopt minutes listed on the consent agenda. The committee also approved a correction to the 2025–26 school calendar to add a pre‑K start date and to clarify two no‑school days; the motion passed 7-0.
The committee approved a homeschool instruction request for the 2024–25 school year by a 7-0 vote. Members also authorized administration of the 2025 Rhode Island Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) by a 7-0 vote.
On facilities, the committee voted 7-0 to authorize an amendment to the memorandum of agreement (MOA) that extends the end date on multiple school projects to Oct. 31, 2025, giving contractors and the district additional summer months to complete work that had a prior major completion date of June 30. A district representative said the extension was requested by the design team and approved by the district’s construction manager.
Fiscal subcommittee resolutions SC‑PR‑2‑2025‑11 through SC‑PR‑2‑2025‑18 were approved 7-0; resolution SC‑PR‑2‑2025‑19 was tabled pending receipt of additional invoices. The committee also voted 7-0 to seal the minutes of recent executive sessions as presented and adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
The meeting contained no payment‑of‑bills vote because there were none to consider that evening.
