"Today was the grand opening of Solana Villas," a Maricopa County official said. The official added, "Solana Villas is 1 of many affordable housing complexes the county has invested in. Since the pandemic, Maricopa County has helped create more than 4,000 affordable housing units." The official also said the county invested "$2,000,000 in American Rescue Plan funds into construction of the development." The official said the complex will serve "single moms like Tyesha Stanford and her 4 kids" who need stable housing.
A Solana Villas resident described living at the complex: "I do live on the Third Floor. I love it. The commute to work is, like, 10 minutes from here, so that's, like, a bonus for me. I don't have to travel Arizona traffic to get home. My children love the playground." Residents and speakers noted on-site amenities that include a fitness center, a swimming pool, a playground and in-unit or on-site laundry.
A Buckeye speaker noted the town's rapid growth in western Maricopa County and framed the development as a response to rising demand for housing as new families and workers move into the area.
Officials and residents at the event emphasized that Solana Villas is intended to expand the supply of below‑market rental housing in downtown Buckeye. Beyond this ribbon-cutting, speakers described the project as part of a broader, ongoing county effort to support affordable housing development.
