Public Works Director Carla Short told commissioners the historic Trocadero Clubhouse at Sigmund Stern Grove has completed extensive repairs and is again available for bookings.
Short said the 133‑year‑old building, damaged two years earlier when an 85‑foot eucalyptus tree fell and triggered sprinkler damage, was restored by preservation contractors who replaced the roof, rafters, eaves, cupola, framing, windows, walls, finishes, wood molding, floors and lighting. Public Works provided construction management and engineering for the $2,500,000 project funded through Recreation and Park’s general fund; the department expects reimbursement through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Short said.
Short described the building as an example of Stick‑Eastlake architectural style and said the restoration sought to save original material and replicate original detailing. She told the commission the venue is now available to book for events.
Commissioners noted the department’s contribution to the project and discussed press mentions; Short said Public Works had been included in the press materials although some media accounts did not include that credit.
Public comment on the director's report was opened and there were no callers recorded in the transcript.
