Brownsburg police report conditional offers to fill five positions; academy training expected

Police Chief Joe Grimes told the Town of Brownsburg Town Council on Feb. 27 that the department has concluded a recruitment cycle and issued additional conditional offers to fill five positions.
Grimes said the department is replacing officers through attrition—resignations and retirements—and anticipates more separations. "We continually are replacing through attrition with resignation or retirements and we anticipate more coming in the future here soon," he said. He added that a majority of the candidates are not experienced officers and therefore will need to attend the Indiana University Academy or other academy training. "So we anticipate at least 4 of them having to start in May," Grimes said, and noted a few lateral hires may have different timelines, with some onboardings possibly in August.
Chief Grimes said hiring will include conditional offers pending finalization and successful completion of background and other pre-employment requirements. He said the department expects the newest hires to complete academy and field training and that staffing levels will ramp up as recruits finish training.
