Council approves $540,000 contract for citywide G2 fire alerting system

The Rio Rancho City Council approved awarding a contract to US Digital Designs for the G2 fire alerting system after a presentation from Fire Chief Jimmy DiFlippo.
DiFlippo told the council the replacement system will modernize how Rio Rancho Fire Rescue alerts and dispatches personnel, isolate and notify necessary staff for response needs, reduce redundancy and provide backup dispatching protocols. Funding for the one-time setup and installation cost of $540,000 was included in the city’s mid‑year 2025 budget, DiFlippo said. The procurement used a cooperative agreement, and advice and consent of the council was required because the contract exceeds $500,000.
Staff recommended approval and said the system will be installed at every city fire station. No members of the public registered to speak on the item. The council approved the contract by roll call; councilors voting yes included List, Tyler, Dabson, Linentine, Weimer and Culbreth.
Councilors had no additional substantive questions on the item during the meeting; staff will proceed with finalizing the contract under the cooperative procurement terms.
