The board discussed potential recruitment and retention impacts of statutory caps.
Miss Mallow moved that the board oppose HB1317; the motion passed 5–2. Board members who spoke against the bill said they were concerned the change could reduce the state's competitiveness for superintendent candidates and create unintended consequences for local contract negotiations. Ms. Mallow and other members argued the board should retain local control over superintendent contract terms.
