Torrance City and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles held a car-seat safety event at Fire Station 1 on Oct. 27, 2025, offering parents hands-on instruction and distributing car seats to families without proper restraints.
A staff member who spoke at the event said, "We are here in Fire Station 1 with the partnership with Children's Hospital LA. This event is for the injury prevention for the kids, educating the parents what's the best way to have the seats in the car." The staff member said technicians had helped a parent install an infant car seat earlier and that organizers would provide car seats to families in need: "And if they don't have proper seats, we are giving out 3 car seats."
A parent who attended the event described the assistance as helpful after upgrading her child from an infant seat to a convertible seat: "I just transferred her from an infant car seat to convertible car seat, so I just wanted to make sure I put it in properly. They had helped me with the infant car seat as well, so I feel a great service. As a mom, I feel better that my daughter's safe." Another attendee thanked event personnel, saying, "Thank you to the Torrance Firefighter for doing this event. It's really nice for them to do this to help parents have their mind at ease that their car seats are properly installed."
Organizers identified the activity as injury-prevention outreach but did not specify eligibility criteria, funding sources or whether the distribution of three car seats represented the total available inventory for the event. The transcript did not state whether similar events will be scheduled at other Torrance City locations.
The event combined hands-on installation checks with limited direct distribution of equipment and aimed to reduce child-injury risk in vehicles by ensuring correct car-seat use and installation.
