The El Centro City Council on Monday approved a payment to a contractor to cover emergency electrical repairs at the city's historic former post office on Fifth Street after Imperial Irrigation District (IID) cut power when smoke was seen in a service conduit.
Staff told the council that IID disconnected service in September to prevent an electrical fire, and that the city contracted outside electricians to replace the pole, transformer, conduit, switchgear and interior panels. "We're asking for your approval to pay the invoice for $107,110.23 from the general fund balance reserves," staff member Abraham said during the presentation.
