Representative James, the bill's carrier, told the Committee of the Whole the measure "cleans up some loopholes" that previously allowed a candidate who lost a primary to also appear on the general election ballot after being nominated by a minor party. Representative Haskins spoke briefly in support on the floor, saying "the carrier of the bill did a fantastic job summarizing it. I encourage you to support the bill." James said committee hearings produced no opponents or neutral testimony and that no fiscal note was required.
Later in the legislative day the House adopted the Committee of the Whole report and recorded final passage of HB 2056, 118 in favor and 1 opposed.
