"A comprehensive plan sets a long‑range vision for land use in the town," a presenter said, describing the update as an effort to document where the town wants to be in the future and to center public input. The board emphasized multiple opportunities for public engagement: a website form currently linked from the town's departments page, public events, working groups, and liaisons from existing town committees.
Committee membership will be appointed by the town board; members are expected to be representative of the community, to bring varied backgrounds and perspectives, and to undertake regular tasks including research, review of drafts, and outreach. The committee is explicitly ad hoc and will dissolve after the plan is adopted. The board also indicated it will provide a part‑time paid secretary to support the committee's administrative work.
During the meeting the board said it intends to go into executive session later in the agenda to discuss hiring particular firm(s) that responded to the request for proposals for the smart growth comprehensive plan update. No final consultant selection was made on the record at this meeting.
