Chelsea Duncan, communications coordinator for Roseburg Public Schools, updated the board on the district’s outreach platforms, including social media metrics, the ParentSquare family‑communication platform and a new career pathways website and guides.
Duncan said the district’s primary social channel reached more than 58,000 people in its highest month and highlighted several high‑reach posts that generated external engagement. She described ParentSquare as a successful tool the district used that day to notify families about an incident at Joseph Lane Middle School and said the system provides real‑time notification, parent reactions and staff follow‑up capabilities.
Duncan said the district created career pathway guides for each pathway the district is developing and coordinated outreach with counselors and principals so students can include pathway choices in course requests. Board members asked whether directors can be added to ParentSquare; Duncan said director accounts exist and the platform’s notification settings can be customized to limit volume.
Board members praised the communications work. One director said the district’s Facebook page is a positive presence in the community; another thanked Duncan for turning ideas into messages that inspire staff and families. Directors suggested the district increase outreach about career pathways to elementary families so students and parents begin thinking earlier about options.
No formal actions were taken from the communications update. Duncan said she would share additional materials and residency data for dual‑credit participation upon request.
