Polk County adopts midyear budget modification; county budget increases by $200,000

Polk County staff presented and the Polk County Board of Commissioners adopted Resolution 25-05, the county’s midyear budget modification, during the board’s Feb. 26 meeting.
“Before you is resolution 25-05,” said Mr. Hansen, a county staff member presenting the item. Hansen outlined department-level changes: an increase of approximately $30,000 to the elections budget; $50,000 to emergency management with a corresponding reduction in fund contingency; $150,000 increase for county shops in the public works fund with a corresponding contingency reduction; a $200,000 increase in health services for family and community outreach due to unanticipated grant revenue (Hansen said this results in an actual increase of $200,000 to the total county budget); and a $20,000 adjustment to public health family planning with a corresponding contingency reduction. He also mentioned adjustments in management services and potential supplemental budgets for other smaller funds.
A commissioner moved to adopt the resolution and another commissioner seconded. The board voted to adopt Resolution 25-05. The motion passed unanimously.
Hansen said the board will likely consider additional supplemental budgets and another formal modification at fiscal-year end in June. He characterized midyear adjustments as auditor-recommended practice to ensure appropriations remain compliant with current budget law.
The board’s action on Resolution 25-05 will be reflected in county appropriation records and in the county’s next publicly posted budget documents.
