District posts OpenSciEd sixth-grade curriculum for 60-day public review; materials cost $75,295

Chandler Unified School District staff said on Feb. 20 they will place the OpenSciEd sixth-grade science curriculum on public display for a required 60-day review period beginning Feb. 27, 2025, under Arizona law.
Dr. Ediger presented the materials and said OpenSciEd is an open educational resource aligned to standards that includes unit and lesson plans, a student video and simulation library, and on-demand teacher support. Although the curriculum content is free, the district identified consumable and non-consumable materials for hands-on learning with an estimated materials cost of $75,295.22, including tax, shipping and processing.
"In accordance with ARS 15-721, the curriculum will be placed on display for the 60 day review period for comment at the Melinda Romero Instructional Resource Center starting 02/27/2025," Dr. Ediger said. After the 60-day public-comment period the curriculum will return to the board for approval.
Ending: The district will accept comments during the public-display period at the Instructional Resource Center and will present the curriculum for board approval after the 60-day review.
