ApplyTexas, TEA and National Student Clearinghouse working to resolve overnight EDI transmission delays

Molly Gulley (Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board) summarized the situation: when ApplyTexas transmissions stop at the ApplyTexas endpoint the board can identify and fix the issue quickly, but when delays occur overnight after ApplyTexas hands files to the National Student Clearinghouse, the board does not get immediate upstream diagnostics. "The larger issue that we're working with the National Student Clearing House is that, there are delays in transmissions that are happening overnight," Gulley said. She said typical delays the group sees are on the order of roughly 12 hours and that the team has been investigating load interactions between ApplyTexas, TEA's transcript system and the Clearinghouse.
Gulley said the teams suspect "a little bit of a traffic jam between the applications coming through and the transcripts through the TREC system" and that the coordinating board has brought TEA into discussions to explore load balancing and remediation. The staff also said they are working to improve internal logs and quicker institution-specific alerts so affected schools can be notified sooner when transmissions to their systems are delayed.
Ending: The coordinating board will continue triage with the Clearinghouse and TEA, refine logging to detect affected institutions more quickly, and report back to the advisory committee on progress.
