Lake County pauses proposed housing town hall while staff integrates outreach into ongoing projects

Lake County commissioners on Feb. 6 paused plans for a March housing town hall and instructed staff to integrate community outreach into ongoing housing efforts, including the Housing at 10200 project and the Harrison site master planning.

County housing staff presented a status report on grants, local subsidies and buyer qualifications for an initial 24-unit affordable housing pilot. Jackie Wellahan, a county housing staff member, said the county has used a mix of state and federal grants and local subsidies to assemble the project pipeline and support buyer assistance.

Why it matters: Commissioners said they want broader, better-targeted engagement and to avoid a large public meeting that might polarize residents. Staff described a set of continuing engagement options — small roundtables, a community-engagement committee and web FAQs — that would fold public input into planning while preserving grant and funding timelines.
