Library staff told the board that the building recorded a door count of 16,666 in the first 10 days and 21,927 checkouts during the same period. Owen, a library staff member who presented usage statistics, said the library issued 1,149 new cards, processed 549 replacement cards and completed about 1,995 card renewals since reopening.
The reopening attracted many families: staff reported that 57% of the nearly 22,000 items checked out in the first 10 days were children’s materials. “It feels like the children’s area is a destination now,” Owen said. He also reported that roughly 70% of checkouts at the new site used self‑checkout machines, up from about 60% at the previous College Avenue location.
