County accepts $13,000 Kenworth reduction and will use ARPA funds for truck repainting

Bannock County Public Works staff told commissioners the county reached an agreement with Kenworth to reduce the price on a contested 10-wheeler, and the commission approved issuing payment under the adjusted amount.
Rodney Romel, Public Works assistant director, said talks with Kenworth produced a $13,000 reduction to cover replacement of defective components and painting the truck bed in-house. "We come up with a number of knocking $13,000 off the bill," Romel said, adding county shop staff will perform well replacements and painting work.
Romel said the county had not released a previously issued check and recommended voiding that check and issuing a new payment for the original amount minus $13,000. He also said paint work is estimated at roughly $6,000; those costs will be paid from ARPA funds and redistributed in a later ARPA update.
Commissioners approved the adjusted payment and directed staff to proceed with voiding the original check and issuing the corrected payment. Staff said the painting invoice will be processed against ARPA funds and that any remaining ARPA balance will be reallocated during an upcoming ARPA update to the commission.
Public Works staff said they will modify future procurement and equipment equipping processes to limit reliance on out-of-area vendors and consider more local or in-house options for future heavy equipment outfitting.
