Commission waives permit fee for preexisting shipping container on private property

County staff said a code compliance visit identified the two unpermitted structures and recommended granting an exception because the container was present before the current owners purchased the property. A county official explained the board's formal action would allow staff to waive the fee in the permitting system.
Board members discussed whether the container met building and zoning codes; staff confirmed it did. Commissioners asked about the likely fee. A staff member said the carport permit would be about $430, and the ConEx fee would likely be "real close to the same"; the exact ConEx permit fee was not specified in the record.
A motion to waive the ConEx permit fee and allow the owners to proceed with permitting was approved by voice vote. County staff said they would publish the findings, record the waiver in the permitting system and notify the property owner when the permit is processed.
