Council approves change order to correct duration and add aesthetic review for Greenway/State Road 84 project

The Plantation City Council on Feb. 26 approved a change order that adjusts the schedule and scope of a roadway/Greenway project after the Metropolitan Planning Organization moved the work from an illustrative list to the feasible plan. City Engineer Samira Shalan said the action corrects the contract duration to reflect that change and incorporates FDOT comments.

Shalan told the council the change order updates the project duration and includes a task to prepare two to three aesthetic options for a bridge component, renderings, and structural analysis. A councilmember noted the agenda listed roughly $4,300 for the task related to presentation materials; Shalan explained the line covers multiple behind‑the‑scenes activities that conclude in a presentation, including structural analysis because different aesthetic materials can affect design.

The change order also reflects an FDOT request to add a de‑acceleration lane for vehicles exiting the project area onto State Road 84; staff said the lane is intended to improve safety and would not diminish the Greenway experience because it would be routed away from the Greenway. Councilmember Fadgen asked whether the change order added 792 days to the contract; staff said it corrects the duration to match the MPO's updated schedule rather than adding unnecessary time.

After clarification from staff, the council approved the change order by roll call. Members said the presentation language in the change order should be clarified, and staff confirmed the task price is appropriate for the work described.

Staff said further questions from commenters could be addressed after the meeting and that FDOT coordination will continue as part of implementation.
