Logan Avenue students demonstrate Capturing Kids’ Hearts routines; school nominated as national showcase

Janet Kingsley, identified in the meeting as the district Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH) coach, attended to observe a student presentation from Logan Avenue Elementary. Principal or staff introduced a sequence of student speakers who described CKH practices at the school.

Kindergartner Sofia Renteria told the board, “At Logan, we start our day with good things. Sharing good things makes me feel happy because I get to share fun and exciting things that happen in my life.” First grader Oliver Brokaw said students are greeted “with handshakes high fives hugs or fist bumps,” and second grader Sebastian Gonzales said classes take “brain breaks” during the day so students can dance and “get my wiggle now.” Other students described classroom affirmation stations, social contracts and monthly CKH themes; fifth grader Adrian Garcia said, “CKH highlights a word for each month. Respect was the word for January.”

A district presenter told the board Logan Avenue has completed a two‑year recommitment to CKH and that the school will expand student leadership work under a new “Lion leaders” element. The presenter announced that, “thanks to Miss Janet Kingsley, we have been nominated as a national showcase school for Capturing Kids' Hearts.” The presenter thanked the board, Superintendent Allison Harder and district office staff for support.

Board members responded with praise for the students’ presentations; one member said, “That was amazing,” and congratulated the school on the nomination. The board received the presentation as an informational item; no vote or formal action was taken.
