Board members reported that the river revitalization steering committee presented three catalyst projects to the Town of Truckee council and that council unanimously approved the concept. Directors described the catalyst projects as the vehicle to pilot corridor changes and inform larger planning and potential relocations.
A board member said the steering committee’s subcommittees — River Health and Economic Vitality — will continue under the Brown Act but will shift in cadence and function. The Economic Vitality Action Team will move toward quarterly meetings and act as an overwatch body, identifying trends, obstacles and opportunities arising from the catalyst projects.
District representatives discussed a “receiver site” subcommittee exploring potential relocation sites for businesses currently occupying riverfront parcels. As described to the board, the Tanner project on East River Street may provide options to consolidate several riverfront businesses onto alternative parcels; the catalyst projects would identify specific site requirements and provide the receiver‑site group with actionable parameters for discussions with landowners, the town and county agencies.
A board member said the steering committee is repurposing its role rather than disbanding it and will continue to use the catalyst projects as the primary vehicles for planning and community feedback. No formal board action was taken at this meeting on river policy.
