Superintendent highlights Black History Month and Read Across America; student rep spotlights hackathon and revived clubs

Superintendent D'Amico opened the meeting by highlighting Black History Month and Read Across America activities across the district, thanking faculty and community volunteers for organizing events that celebrate history and literacy.
D'Amico told trustees elementary schools marked Read Across America with author visits, community members reading to students and character appearances tied to the program. He said staff have organized events to encourage reading and noted he personally read to three kindergarten classes at Washington Elementary School.
Student representative Amarjeet Singh reported on extracurricular achievements at Lodi High School. Singh said students engaged with charitable activities through a group called TEAM and that National Honor Society volunteers read to elementary students as part of Read Across America. He noted the high school band is preparing for the musical opening night on March 7 and that Advanced Placement students are participating in regional science and math leagues.
Singh also said the debate club, which had previously been discontinued, has been revived and is attracting students; and he highlighted a programming/hackathon competition at Monmouth University where a Lodi team placed in the top 10. Singh said student government is working to boost participation in a coffee-house fundraiser and increase fundraising for extracurriculars.
Trustees thanked Singh and the district staff for the reports and for the range of student activities across academic and extracurricular programs.
The updates were given as part of general superintendent and student representative reports and did not require board action.
