Woburn student tells school committee bathroom fights and harassment are undermining learning

At the Feb. 26 school committee meeting, 11th‑grade student Cassidy Morrissey used the public comment period to tell the committee that safety concerns at Woburn Memorial High School have increased and are affecting education.
Morrissey said fights in bathrooms have become “a recurring problem” and cited onlookers, paused lessons and an overall atmosphere that distracts students who are focused on learning. She also described increased harassment, including catcalling and inappropriate behavior toward female students, and urged the committee to adopt firmer disciplinary responses and stronger prevention and support measures.
The committee thanked Morrissey for her courage in speaking; no formal action was taken during the meeting, but members asked administrators to review the concerns and follow up with appropriate staff and next steps.
