Greenfield Terrace Park project on schedule; community building expansion due in May 2025

Greenville parks staff told the City Council on Feb. 13 that improvements at Greenfield Terrace Park are on schedule, with the addition to the community building expected to be complete in May 2025.
Don Octagon, the city’s executive director for parks, said council approved a construction contract in June and construction began last September. The project scope includes a roughly 900-square-foot expansion of the Barnes and Tap building, a full kitchen upgrade with a new island and cabinets, new windows, updated flooring and acoustic improvements; replacement playground equipment; parking lot paving; and resurfacing of the basketball court.
“We plan on about a month before we open it, community to, book, rentals in advance. So hopefully, late May, early June, we’ll have a ribbon cutting,” Octagon said. He identified Mike Watson as the project manager and Mark Nottingham as additional staff leading the effort. Octagon said the building is “on schedule, to be completed, May 2025,” and that the basketball-court resurfacing will begin when weather allows.
Council members praised the project and noted the facility’s frequent community use for family events and rentals. Octagon said staff will circulate a memo to council with a rental start date roughly one month before opening. No formal council action was required.
