The Kernersville Board of Aldermen voted unanimously Feb. 26 to accept a steering-committee recommendation and select Teska and Associates, working with Freese and Nichols, to update the town’s comprehensive plan.
Town staff told the board the steering committee interviewed three finalists on Feb. 10 and recommended the Teska/Freese & Nichols team. Other finalists named in the discussion were Inspire Placemaking and Stewart. The firms’ proposals included itemized work and price information; committee members said most proposals clustered near the $150,000 range (the staff comment referenced figures around $148,000–$153,000). The town had allocated $100,000 in the current budget and plans to carry remaining costs into next year’s budget as needed.
Alderman Apple moved to approve the steering committee’s recommendation and Alderman Barrow seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Town staff said the firms’ reference checks included work for the City of Greensboro and described the Teska/Freese & Nichols pairing as a “dream team” for the project; the interview with the firms was recorded and will be made available to board members on request.
Ending: Staff said a detailed proposal and contract documents are attached to the agenda packet and that the budgeted funds are available to start work in the current fiscal year with remaining costs to be carried forward as necessary.
