Representative Pasco moved and Representative Gidley seconded the motion for a favorable report; the committee approved the bill by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
House Bill 288 — athletic-trainer loan assistance: Representative Mooney described HB288 as a loan-repayment program administered by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education and the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers to recruit and retain licensed athletic trainers in K‑12 and postsecondary institutions. The program would provide eligible trainers up to $7,500 a year (or $3,750 per semester) for work of at least 20 hours per week, subject to existing available funds. Representative Gray moved for a favorable report; the motion carried by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
House Bill 271 — ACHE eligibility age change (as amended): Representative Collins presented HB271, which would change eligibility for a state higher-education program administered by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education by lowering an age limit from 25 to 22 and clarifying eligible credentials. The committee adopted a technical amendment (adding a missing letter) offered by Collins; the amendment was moved, seconded and approved. Representative Drummond moved to give the bill a favorable report as amended; Representative Gray seconded the motion, and the committee approved it by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
None of these bills’ committee votes included recorded roll-call tallies in the transcript; all were approved by voice vote and will advance with favorable committee recommendations.
