Encinitas council and staff set new vision, outline six focus areas after two‑day strategic planning session

Encinitas city council members and the city’s executive staff concluded a two‑day strategic planning workshop by agreeing a new, forward‑looking vision and a set of six focus areas to guide work over the coming year.

The council’s final vision, adopted by consensus of those present at the session, reads in full: “Encinitas is five unique, vibrant communities united to forge a safer, healthier, and more environmentally sustainable future, thriving as one forward‑focused city.” Council and staff said the statement is intended to frame subsequent priorities and budgeting decisions.

Council and staff described the effort as an alignment exercise — turning campaign platforms and committee work into a single set of shared priorities. The city’s executive team summarized six focus areas that will steer the next phase of planning: public safety (protection of life, property and the physical environment); effective, reliable city services, communications and infrastructure; safe and efficient mobility and circulation for all modes; environmental, shoreline and open‑space stewardship; preserving community character while supporting economic vitality; and strengthening and adhering to the general plan while pursuing responsible development.
