House Bill 8-24, sponsored by Representative Freeman, would extend the event marketing fund used to promote large visitor-generated events in Nashville through 2032. The committee voted to advance the bill to Finance, Ways and Means by a 17–3–1 vote.
Representative Freeman said the fund was created in 2008 and is supported by a portion of a $2.50 fee; the fund helps market and recruit major events such as the Super Bowl, CMA Fest and the NFL draft and supports the downtown hospitality sector. "House Bill 8-24 extends the funding of the event marketing fund, which was created in 02/2008," Freeman said.
Members recorded 17 ayes, 3 nays and 1 present not voting. The bill now moves to Finance, Ways and Means for fiscal review and committee consideration.
