Placerville Fire Safe Council announces Wildfire Safety Day for April 26; city council members praise effort

Mark Acuna, member of the Placerville Fire Safe Council and a former city council member, told the council on Feb. 25 that the fourth annual Placerville Wildfire Safety Day will be Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 681 Main Street (Midtown Mall).
Acuna said 23 agencies had confirmed attendance and that the event would include fire-hardening resources, insurance representatives, and demonstrations including a fire-simulation table. “We currently have 23 agencies confirmed that will be attending, and they range from your typical fire agencies through a couple of different, fair plan insurance experts,” Acuna said.
The event will also include apparatus displays; Acuna said he expects ladder trucks and a simulated-fire demonstration that will model local wind patterns. He said Midtown Mall cafe operator Mindy Flynn (Espresso Yourself 2) will be open for the event and planned a fire-related treat.
Council members praised the Fire Safe Council’s outreach and encouraged attendance. Sue Rodman, also a Fire Safe Council member, told residents that personal defensible-space work is essential and urged property owners to create and maintain defensible space around homes.
Acuna said the group hopes to attract about 600 attendees and thanked volunteers and city staff for support. The council offered general thanks and no formal action was required.
