Rachel Terry, director of Stratica museum in Hutchinson, asked the Reno County Board of Commissioners for a letter of support to accompany an application for Smithsonian affiliation.
Terry said Stratica added two exhibits and a tour in 2024, is planning a virtual reality exhibit for the coming summer and reported the museum’s 2023 economic impact at more than $2 million annually with 80% of visitors from outside the state. She said Smithsonian affiliation would increase tourism and provide access to traveling exhibits, educational programming and Smithsonian resources.
Commissioners moved and seconded a motion to provide a letter endorsing Stratica’s Smithsonian application. The board voted unanimously in favor; no county funding or financial commitment was requested at the meeting.
Ending: Stratica will collect recommendation letters as part of its Smithsonian application; county staff will prepare and sign a letter of support requested by the museum director.
