Commission approves citywide sidewalk assessment and improvement plan

City staff told commissioners Public Works will complete a survey of sidewalks across all districts, produce a condition report with priority listings and cost estimates, and submit a multi‑year repair and rehabilitation schedule. The commission directed staff to seek external funding sources, including state and federal grants, and to include a monitoring and accountability mechanism: annual progress reports back to the commission.
Public Works staff noted ongoing work in locations such as Kimberly Boulevard and said crews will pursue both immediate hazard repairs and longer‑term rehabilitation projects. The ordinance directs the city manager to prepare a timeline and budget that balances immediate safety needs with long‑term improvements.
The ordinance passed by roll call; commissioners asked that staff provide maps and a public‑facing schedule for planned repairs so residents can track work in their neighborhoods.
