Work group members said they will invite about 50 participants to a facilitated community conversation scheduled for Saturday, April 12, at the high school. Participants will be seated in tables of eight to ten with board members facilitating each table. The facilitator is expected to guide timed small-group discussions using common questions the work group will finalize next week.
On metrics, the Climate and Shelter work group described a proposed dashboard to track belonging using the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) and the District-level DCYA adult survey; the measures would show the share of students who “agree” or “strongly agree” that they belong and the share of staff who say adults treat students fairly. The work group proposed a 70% target for all students and subgroups by the end of the 2026–27 school year, using baseline results from recent survey cycles.
Board members praised the work group's multi‑year effort to define belonging and to create a manageable set of metrics. Work group members said the April session will include invited community groups and that logistical details — including childcare and time (9 a.m.–noon) — are in planning.
