UN condemns killing of Ukrainian journalist and flags press-freedom concerns at UN HQ and UNESCO event

Reporters at the briefing also raised concerns about press freedom at UN Headquarters after several journalists said security personnel had interrupted live broadcasts. The spokesperson said the UN would look into those incidents and asked reporters to provide details so the matter could be examined.
A reporter also asked about a last-minute cancellation of Uyghur-language scholar Abdulweli Ayyep from a UNESCO conference at UNESCO headquarters. The spokesperson said she had not heard of that specific incident and would look into it, advising the reporter to ask UNESCO for details as well.
The spokesperson emphasized the UN's interest in protecting journalists and safeguarding press freedoms both in conflict zones and at UN premises.
