Mountain View Library adds PressReader for free access to thousands of newspapers and magazines

Mark Jack demonstrated PressReader to trustees and said the library launched the service last week. PressReader provides access to thousands of newspapers and magazines, Jack said, covering roughly 7,000 publications in about 60 languages and offering article translation into more than a dozen languages and audio read-aloud features for accessibility.
Jack showed trustees how Wi‑Fi or public computers provide immediate access when users click the PressReader link in the library’s resources. Remote access requires selecting the library and entering a library card number and PIN; creating an optional PressReader account allows users to save publications, download issues for offline reading inside the app and share articles. Jack said the service resembles the library’s existing Flipster magazine service in functionality but covers a broader set of newspapers and includes translation and audio options.
Trustees were shown the desktop interface and were told the app supports offline downloads for reading without connectivity. Jack recommended patrons try the app for multilingual access and said staff had trained on the service and promoted it to the public.
