New Englewood has asked the City of Englewood for expedited termination of a city-center ground lease on the former Weingart Garden property, city staff said during the mayor–manager meeting on Feb. 26.
City Manager Sean Lewis scheduled a presentation for the March 3 meeting to receive the New Englewood group’s request. City staff asked Community Development to confirm whether the group is available for that date; staff also discussed whether the executive-session discussion and any formal direction should occur at the same meeting or be moved to a different date to allow council action after an executive session.
The request, as described in the meeting, concerns termination of the existing ground lease tied to transfer of the former Weingart Garden property to New Englewood. No formal action, vote or ordinance was taken at the Feb. 26 meeting; staff described the item as an upcoming presentation and asked the council whether to expect direction at the March 3 meeting or to handle direction after an executive session. City staff said they would check availability and adjust the schedule if needed. City Manager Sean Lewis also noted he will be out of town the following Monday and that Tim (city staff) will serve as acting city manager at the next meeting.
Next steps: Community Development staff will confirm the New Englewood group’s availability for the March 3 meeting and advise whether the item should remain on that agenda or be rescheduled so council can meet in executive session and then take action in open session. The meeting transcript records discussion and scheduling only; it does not record any council direction to approve or deny lease termination.
