Lancaster City Council President announced Feb. 25 that nominations are open through March 17 for the city’s new independent ethics commission, created under the city’s home-rule charter. Under Section 12 of the Lancaster home-rule charter, the ethics commission will consist of seven residents: two appointed by the mayor, three appointed by city council and two appointed by the city controller. Nominees can self-nominate or be nominated by others, and initial terms will be staggered. Council President asked that nominees be residents of Lancaster and said nominees should not have held any appointed or elected city office, political party office or political action committee position within the last year.
Process and timeline: the nomination form has been open since January and will remain open for submissions through March 17. After the deadline, council members will each submit their top two choices for interviews; the four nominees who receive the most nominations from councilors will be invited to interviews during a council meeting.
