On Feb. 25 the Boca Raton City Council introduced Ordinance 57‑31, which would create a new article in Chapter 16 of the city code authorizing implementation of school‑zone speed detection systems.
The proposed ordinance would designate school zones subject to heightened enforcement, establish enforcement and hearing procedures, identify a local hearing officer, and set requirements for installation, operation and public notification. The ordinance text was read at the meeting and was introduced by a council member for future consideration; no final vote was taken on adoption that evening.
Council members acknowledged the introduction and indicated the item would proceed through the ordinance process. Staff will return with required materials and scheduling for subsequent hearings and any implementation steps if the ordinance is later adopted.
