Council fills advisory board vacancies; Pedestrian/Bikeway and Community Advisory Panel appointments split across votes

The Boca Raton City Council appointed members to multiple advisory boards during its Feb. 25 meeting.

For the Citizens Pedestrian and Bikeway Advisory Board the council initially voted between two applicants. The tally announced in the meeting was Jelisa Caballero—3 votes; Sierra Elise Dallas—2 votes. Caballero was initially declared appointed to the Pedestrian and Bikeway Advisory Board.

Caballero had also applied for the Community Advisory Panel and later advised the council she preferred the Community Advisory Panel. After nominations and a vote, Caballero received 4 votes and was appointed to the Community Advisory Panel; one other candidate, identified in the record as “Mister Soder,” received one vote. Council then moved to reconsider the earlier Pedestrian and Bikeway advisory appointment and, after a motion to reconsider and insert the name of Dallas, Dallas was appointed to the Pedestrian and Bikeway Advisory Board.

Other appointments included the Community Appearance Board, where Erez Barnur was nominated and confirmed by voice vote; and the Marine Advisory Board, where three incumbents—Miss Bobich, Gary O’Donnell and Tom Thayer—were nominated and reappointed to three available seats.

Votes for board appointments were taken with members present; the minutes record the specific vote counts for contested seats as noted above. The council thanked applicants and encouraged continued participation from those not selected. Staff will follow up on appointment paperwork and onboarding for the newly appointed members.
