Clovis schools outline auditorium renovation, multiple campus upgrades

Clovis schools representatives told the City of Clovis Public Works Committee that major facility work will start soon at several district campuses, including an auditorium renovation at Marshall Sixth Grade Academy.

Mr. Brady, a Clovis Schools representative, said work on the Marshall auditorium will begin with demolition next week and include new seating, lighting, paint, carpeting, concrete polishing and a stained stage. "When it's done, we'll be putting a mural in the front lobby that will represent the historic nature of the facility," Brady said, adding the district intends the space to function as a performing arts center when complete.

The district also reported progress on Clovis High School and the Clovis High School Freshman Academy. Brady said A and B building renovations for the freshman academy are advancing in the planning phase and the contractor is expected to begin demolition and initial work in about four to five weeks. He described additional work at Lockwood — including shade structures and playground equipment for four-year-olds — delayed earlier by cold weather that prevented concrete pours.

At James Bickley, the district plans to install new perimeter fencing to enclose and secure the playground so "people cannot just walk onto that campus when students are out there playing outside," Brady said. Brady also described a plan to convert the Old Gaddis building at the Freshman Academy into an office complex and training facility; the district expects that project to be finished by May 2026.

Brady highlighted elementary athletic participation and local outreach as part of the update but did not request committee action. Committee members asked no substantive follow-up questions during the update.
