Greer โ The Greer City Council adopted Resolution 4-2025 at its February 2025 meeting to rename the athletic field at Greer City Stadium "Lonnie McGee Field." Councilmembers said family members were present for the recognition and the council planned a brief celebration in the lobby after the meeting.
The resolution text cited McGee's decades of community involvement, his appearances at Greer High events, and his role greeting patrons and serving as an honorary referee and coin-toss official at youth games. "Guy was a spectacular individual in our community," Councilmember Booker said during remarks after the motion; Booker and other councilmembers described McGee as a consistent presence at local sporting events and community gatherings.
Mayor Danner read the resolution into the record and the council approved the measure on a motion and second. Councilmembers said the council and the high school will hold a further event at the stadium at a later date to memorialize the renaming during the football season. The council adjourned to the lobby for a short recognition after the vote.
