Greer reports $23.58 million general fund cash balance for January; revenues slightly behind benchmark

Greer — At a regularly scheduled Greer City Council meeting in February 2025, Chris Klein delivered a financial update showing the city's general fund cash balance at $23,580,000 as of January 2025, with year-to-date revenues of $26,096,000 and year-to-date expenditures of $25,500,000.

The report said the city was 8% under budget overall for the period, with an unfavorable revenue benchmark variance of $913,000 and a favorable expenditure benchmark variance of $1,900,000, producing an overall favorable benchmark variance of $1,067,000. Klein also reported a Hospitality Fund cash balance of $2,500,000 (year-to-date revenues $2,288,000; year-to-date expenditures $728,000) and a Stormwater Fund cash balance of $3,574,000 (year-to-date revenues $1,600,000; year-to-date expenditures $740,000).

The figures were presented without proposed policy changes; planning and accounting staff were cited as sources for the numbers. Mayor Danner thanked staff for the work and said, "I appreciate the information that was brought to us in our workshop this evening in regards to our annual comprehensive financial report." The mayor referenced the workshop presentation by Mr. Grisham of S. Preston Douglas and Associates LLP, certified accountants, as part of the briefing materials the council received.

The update concluded with Klein offering to answer questions and to provide copies of the comprehensive financial report to council members on request.

The figures reflect January 2025 activity only; the report did not propose revisions to the city's adopted budget during the meeting.
