Council finalizes tobacco retailer ordinance, adopts fees

At its Feb. 25 meeting the Grass Valley City Council approved the second reading of an ordinance regulating tobacco retailers and adopted a resolution establishing related licensing fees.
Chief of Police Alex Gamelgaard presented the item and confirmed the ordinance received a second reading as Ordinance No. 833; if adopted it becomes effective 30 days later. The council also adopted a resolution (listed in the staff packet) that sets fees for new and renewal tobacco retailer licenses, significant tobacco retailer licenses and an appeal processing fee.
There were no public comments on the item during the hearing. Council voted to adopt the ordinance and the fee resolution by unanimous voice vote; a roll call later confirmed four yes votes.
The ordinance and fee schedule were developed as part of an earlier council action to regulate tobacco retail activity and to make fee collection consistent across new license categories. Chief Gamelgaard said the amounts are listed in the agenda packet and staff is available to answer questions.
Councilmembers did not request substantive changes during the second reading and the measures will take effect in accordance with the ordinance and resolution timelines in the packet.
