The Osceola Board of County Commissioners unanimously proclaimed Jan. 19–25, 2025, as National Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Week.
Commissioner Janer read the proclamation recognizing CRNAs as advanced practice registered nurses who provide anesthesia care in multiple settings and as primary anesthesia providers in many rural and underserved communities and in military settings. A motion and second to adopt the proclamation were approved by voice vote.
David Camacho, identified himself as a certified registered nurse anesthetist, thanked the commission and described CRNA practice in Osceola County and beyond. “We are advanced practice registered nurses, and we received additional training and education to administer anesthesia in every type of patient care setting,” Camacho said. He said CRNAs provide more than 50,000,000 anesthetics a year nationally and are deployed in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Camacho referenced local facilities where CRNAs practice, including AdventHealth Kissimmee, Celebration (AdventHealth Celebration), Osceola Regional, and Orlando Health St. Cloud. He said CRNAs also care for veterans at Lake Nona Veterans Hospital and thanked the county for recognizing the week.
Why it matters: the proclamation highlights the role of CRNAs in county health-care delivery and in military and rural settings, recognizing their contribution to patient care across facilities.
Ending: The board approved the proclamation by voice vote and recognized a local CRNA for his comments to the commission.
