County approves Bourbon Road emergency culvert repair, authorizes bridge documents and payments

Joe Snyder, Atchison County Road and Bridge superintendent, told commissioners on June 10 that a concrete box wing wall on Bourbon Road had failed and that erosion beneath the guardrail made the repair urgent. The commission approved a purchase order of $83,805 to Northwell Contracting to install sheet piling, H‑pile, and tiebacks and to restore the roadway.

Snyder described the work as urgent: "It's kind of an emergency," he said, noting crews planned to start as soon as next week. The project will be paid from the department's contractual line item.

The commission also approved payment number 2 to Tonks in the amount of $17,148.57 for work on the Ottawa Road project and agreed to hold the contractor check until remaining closeout items are finished, per Snyder.

Commissioners additionally authorized the chair to sign state documents related to a KDOT bridge project (bridge 15.4‑n.six), including federal‑funding certification and lobbying disclosures required for participation. Those documents were presented by the road and bridge superintendent and signed after commission approval.

Snyder also presented a purchase order request for BG Consultants to provide architectural and engineering services related to a senior village project; the commission approved the PO to be paid from senior‑village sale proceeds.

All motions on the discussed road and bridge matters passed by recorded voice votes of 3 to 0.
