The Kuna City Planning and Zoning Commission approved design review Tuesday for a Valor Classical Academy K–12 charter school proposed on approximately 5.39 acres in the Valor subdivision near South Cloverdale Road and Kuna Road.
Planner Marina Lundy told commissioners the site is already zoned R‑6 (medium residential density) and that staff’s recommended conditions include updating the site plan to show ADA‑compliant parking stalls and a trash enclosure that meets J & M Sanitation’s requirements. Lundy said staff reviewed the proposal for consistency with code and the comprehensive plan and recommended approval subject to conditions.
Katrina Kolm of Erstad Architects presented the building plans and materials concept. She described a two‑story school building with a brick and stucco facade and a main entry oriented to the pedestrian and parent‑drop area. Kolm said the design accommodates separate bus and parent drop‑off circulation and that the site plan includes on‑site play areas and an adjacent open green space and future park connections.
Kolm told the commission the campus is sized for a full K–12 program and identified a future phase for a gym and associated support spaces; she said the completed campus would accommodate roughly 700 students at full build‑out. Commissioners asked about on‑site playfields; Kolm confirmed a lower‑school play area, a larger open green space for field use and coordination with a nearby planned city park.
Commissioners praised the traffic and circulation features that separate buses from parent drop‑off and the pedestrian connections to the surrounding neighborhood. A motion to approve design review (case number 25‑11‑DR) with the staff‑recommended conditions passed by voice vote.
