Boone County school board elects officers, approves plans and 2025-26 allocation formulas

At its January meeting the Boone County Board of Education elected Jesse Parks chair, named Cindy Young vice chair and approved the consent agenda, district and school improvement plans and allocation formulas for the 2025–26 school year. Several votes were unanimous; the chair election passed 4–1.
The Boone County Board of Education elected Jesse Parks chair and Cindy Young vice chair and approved several routine and policy items during its January meeting, including the district comprehensive improvement plan, individual school plans, the consent agenda and allocation formulas for the 2025–26 school year.
Board election and leadership: Board member Carolyn Hankins Wolf moved to nominate Jesse Parks as chair for 2025; board member Cindy Young seconded. Nominations were closed and the motion carried by a vote of 4 to 1. Board member Karen Bird placed a separate nomination for chair but it failed for lack of a second.
Cindy Young was nominated for vice chair by Carolyn Hankins Wolf, seconded by Julie Maddox; the nomination passed unanimously, 5–0.
Consent agenda and plans: The board approved the consent agenda (items A through II) by motion of Karen Bird with a second from Cindy Young; the vote was 5–0. The board then approved the 2024–25 comprehensive district improvement plan (motion by Carolyn Hankins Wolf; second by Karen Bird) and the 2024–25 comprehensive school improvement plans (motion by Wolf; second by Bird), both by unanimous 5–0 votes.
Allocation formulas: The board approved the recommended allocation formulas for the 2025–26 school year (motion by Carolyn Hankins Wolf; second by Cindy Young). The vote was 5–0. During discussion Superintendent Dr. Hauswald acknowledged ongoing concerns from board members and the community about salaries and wages and said an external review of salaries will be presented in February, followed by a comprehensive review of allocation practices in March.
Closed session: The board moved into closed session pursuant to KRS 61.810(1)(c) for discussion of pending litigation. A motion to adjourn to closed session was made and seconded and approved by voice vote; the board then recessed to closed session.
