The Daggett County Commission on Jan. 7 approved updated bylaws for the county cemetery board and ratified the cemetery board's revised rules and regulations that apply to cemeteries owned or operated by Daggett County.
Jesse, chair of the cemetery board in Manila, told the commission the bylaws had been reviewed previously and were the same document under which the board has operated, with one wording change. The amendment replaces language referring specifically to “cemeteries in Manila and Dutch John” with wording covering “any cemeteries owned or operated by Daggett County.” Jesse said the change was intended to make the bylaws a countywide document rather than a town-specific one.
Commissioners moved and approved the bylaws on a voice vote. The board then presented a related set of rules and regulations with several substantive clarifications, including a new option for a double grave lot (two adjoined single graves sold as a pair) and specifications about the order and placement of full burials and cremation internments (the full burial must be placed first and cremations in identified positions). The rules specify which sections of the cemetery may be sold as double-grave blocks and direct staff to include diagrams so lot owners clearly understand placement.
The commission ratified the rules and regulations and discussed administrative follow-up. County staff and the cemetery board agreed to add signature lines and an "attest" line for the clerk, and the county attorney will verify whether further procedural steps are required to finalize the pricing and fee schedule elements in the rules. Commissioners emphasized the need to ensure the county fee schedule reflects any adopted cemetery fees and noted that some fee schedule updates typically require an additional procedural step.
On the motion to ratify the rules and regulations, commissioners voted in favor and recorded the motion as carrying. Commissioners instructed staff to coordinate with the county attorney and county clerk to finalize signatures and, if necessary, return the item to a future agenda for any administrative amendments tied to fee adoption.
