Commission approves surplus and retiree purchase options for four county laptops

Daggett County commissioners on Jan. 7 approved the county information technology department's request to surplus four laptops. The motion authorized offering two machines to retiring employees at a preferential rate and placing the remaining two on the county surplus list for public sale.
Cordell Cracken, information technology staff, told the commission the four units consisted of three Lenovo laptops and one HP, all roughly four to five years old. Cracken said the HP unit was valued about $5 higher than the Lenovo units and that the county planned to price surplus units at roughly 10% of their original purchase cost. Two of the laptops had been offered to retiring staff immediately and would be held for them through a short period; if the retirees declined, the machines will be added to the public surplus listing.
A commissioner moved to approve the surplus plan; the motion passed by voice vote. County staff said they will prepare public-facing flyers and administration steps for the surplus sale and will manage the retiree offers in coordination with human resources.
The commission's action allows county IT to proceed with the surplus process. The county did not adopt a fixed sale price at the meeting beyond the general 10% guideline noted by staff, and staff indicated they would prepare the public notices and follow county surplus procedures.
