Leawood planning commission approves consent agenda; council reappoints three commissioners, schedules work session on building codes

Chair Cameron announced that the City Council (mayoral appointments confirmed by the council) approved reappointments for Stacy Belzer, Matt Block and Steve McGurren to three-year terms on the planning commission running from March 1, 2025, through Feb. 29, 2028. The chair thanked the commissioners for their continued service.
The commission approved the consent agenda by voice vote after a motion by Commissioner Black and a second from Commissioner Hoyt. Commissioners also approved minutes for the Jan. 14 and Jan. 28 meetings by separate motions and voice votes.
Staff updated commissioners on the comprehensive plan request for proposals (RFP), saying the city is "looking forward to getting the proposals on the fourth" and that staff will communicate with commissioners after the selection committee begins review. The staff speaker did not specify the month for the deadline in the meeting record; that deadline remains as stated in the RFP.
Commissioners confirmed a March 11 work session that will include Travis Torres from the Building Code Department to discuss code enforcement, building-code processes and the department's interaction with planning. The chair said the work session was scheduled after commissioners requested a more in-depth review of how approvals are processed and the checks and balances between departments.
The commission also noted the State of the City address was scheduled "this Thursday at 11:30," and that commissioners interested in attending should contact the Parks and Recreation Department; a small attendance fee applies. The commission reminded members that the next regular meeting on March 25 will include the election of officers.
No formal policy changes were adopted during these administrative announcements.
