The Advisory Committee on Racial Equity, Inclusion and Human Rights elected Katie Bridal as chair and Melissa Buffals as vice chair during its Feb. 25 meeting and approved minutes from three prior meetings.
Liana Fellas nominated Katie Bridal for chair, and Bridal accepted the nomination. Committee members present who recorded their votes included Mark Roth (remote), Shane Boyce and Melissa Buffals; the committee announced Katie Bridal as the new chair at the meeting.
Melissa Buffals was nominated and seconded for vice chair, accepted the nomination, and the committee recorded affirmative votes from Mark Roth and others present; the meeting announcement identified Buffals as the new vice chair.
Because the committee has used a volunteer secretary position in prior years, Leanna (committee member) volunteered to keep meeting notes; because the secretary is an unpaid volunteer the committee did not hold a formal vote to fill that post.
The committee also moved to approve minutes from Oct. 29, Dec. 18, 2024 and Jan. 28, 2025. A motion to approve those minutes was made and seconded; members present voted to approve the minutes during the Feb. 25 meeting.
Ending: The newly elected chair led the remainder of the meeting, and the committee then shifted to substantive agenda items including FOA training and an ordinance review.
